The Ocean Isle Beach Fire Department was originally established in 1976 as a volunteer fire department and acquired by the Town on July 1, 2008. Ocean Isle Beach Fire Department proudly protects 13,000 permanent residents and roughly 330,000 vacationers in the summer along with over a dozen commercial structures, encompassing a span of roughly (11) square miles. 

Ocean Isle Beach Fire Department holds an ISO rating of a 3 with the Office of State Fire Marshal. What is an ISO Fire Rating you may ask? The Office of State Fire Marshal creates ratings for fire departments and their surrounding communities. The primary responsibility of this section is the inspection of all fire departments having a 9S insurance classification to ensure compliance with criteria established by the Department of Insurance. This criterion dictates a minimum level of fire protection and qualifies homeowners throughout the state to be eligible to receive reduced insurance premium rates. In the ISO rating scale, the lower the number the better: One (1) being the best possible rating and ten (10) being the worst.

Our department is a combination department with a career staff of a Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief, three (3) Captains, nine (9) firefighters, five (5) part time firefighters, along with eight (8) dedicated Volunteer Firefighters.
