Brunswick County GenX Test Results

Bolivia, NC – Brunswick County has received additional results of testing for GenX in the water supply which continue to show levels below the 140 parts per trillion health goal developed by the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services.

Testing of water samples taken by Brunswick County on July 13 revealed levels of 71.2 parts per trillion in the Northwest Water Treatment Plant’s raw water coming into the plant, and 65.2 parts per trillion in the finished water leaving the plant.  Furthermore, testing of water samples taken by the State of North Carolina on July 13 revealed GenX at a level 110 parts per trillion in the finished water leaving the plant.

The slight discrepancy between Brunswick County and North Carolina finished water results is explained by the different volumes of water in the samples, and the significant amount of variability that may exist when testing involves such small units of measurement.

“We continue to be cautiously optimistic that GenX levels are decreasing and remain below the health goal set by DHHS,” said Ann Hardy, Brunswick County Manager. “We are regularly monitoring the situation and will work with our state partners to keep the public informed and, if necessary, determine potential corrective actions. As always, I encourage the public to visit our website and social media channels for up-to-date information.”
