Motorcycle Patrol
In May of 1999, the Ocean Isle Beach Police Department, in conjunction with Carolina Coast Harley-Davidson and the Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Company, added a motorcycle to our patrol fleet. Rick Noyes, Owner of Carolina Coast Harley-Davidson, participates in a program that allows him to lease (to police departments) new Harley-Davidson Road Kings for a period of six months. The monthly cost of this lease is one dollar!
Having the motorcycle helps cut down on our response times, especially on heavy traffic days. Being a resort community, the summer and holidays are our busiest time. During the summer, Saturday is our check-in/check-out day. Traffic can be backed up four to five miles in all directions. However, with the motorcycle we can still maneuver through the traffic safely and quickly.
This program has had such an impact on our community during the past
several years that we continue to lease Road Kings during the tourist seasons.
Another year has gone by, and we have had a great response from our citizens. We anticipate the motorcycle to be a continued asset to the department. Lt. John Goodwin
and Officer Brett Heintz will be patrolling the streets and responding to emergencies with the help of Carolina Coast Harley Davidson.
