PUBLIC NOTICE
Due to the current unprecedented demand for water, and in conjunction with Brunswick County Public Utilities, the Town of Ocean Isle Beach has declared a STAGE 1 WATER CONSERVATION ALERT for all Town of Ocean Isle Beach Public Utilities Customers. Since the Memorial Day holiday weekend, an average of 18 million gallons of water per day has been consumed by Brunswick County’s retail customers, industrial customers, and the customers of municipalities served by the County through wholesale water agreements. The peak usage during this period was 21.86 mgd, which represents approximately 70% of the County’s total water treatment capacity. Water supply for the Town of Ocean Isle Beach is provided by Brunswick County.
Most of the increase in water consumption during the recent months is attributable to an increase in demand for irrigation due to the drought conditions being experienced throughout the Southeast. During a STAGE 1 WATER CONSERVATION ALERT, customers are asked to voluntarily conserve water.
Suggested Conservation Methods Include:
REDUCE IRRIGATION FREQUENCY
For established lawns, daily irrigation is not required. Irrigate only when there is no moisture in the root zone.
IRRIGATE DURING OFF PEAK HOURS
Peak demand for water is between 6:00 AM to 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. If irrigation is necessary, irrigate during off peak times.
CHECK FOR LEAKS AND REPAIR LEAKS IMMEDIATELY
Leaks such as running toilets and dripping faucets should be repaired immediately to reduce water consumption.
DO NOT WASH DOWN OUTSIDE AREAS SUCH AS DRIVEWAYS, SIDEWALKS, PATIOS, ETC.
USE HEAVY WATER – USING APPLIANCES DURING OFF PEAK HOURS
Appliances such as dishwashers and washing machines should be run during off peak times to reduce peak demand.
If the drought continues and the demand for water continues to increase, the Town of Ocean Isle Beach in conjunction with the County may implement additional mandatory water conservation measures. If you have any questions regarding this public notice, please contact the Town’s Public Utilities Department at 910-579-2166
